On arrival in Luang Prabang, you will be met by our staff and transferred to your hotel. Luang Prabang is perhaps the best-preserved traditional city in Southeast Asia. The tranquility and charm of this town with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights make it one of the most delightful places to visit in Laos. Today is free at your leisure to explore. An optional early start gives you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily morning alms giving ritual to saffron clad monks. This tradition is unique to Laos, being the only Buddhist nation still preserving this procession.
After breakfast, we visit The National Museum at the former Royal Palace, which displays a lovely collection of artifacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture throughout the ages. We then walk through the quiet backstreets of Luang Prabang, being introduced to French colonial-era buildings of historical importance or architectural significance. We will make sure to visit the city's oldest temple, Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong where you can see the impressive “tree of life” mosaic set in colored glass.
In the afternoon, we will board an upstream cruise on the Mekong River, offering a panoramic view of the tranquil countryside. We will stop at the Pak Ou Caves, which are sanctuaries consisting of two large caverns, both repositories for thousands of Buddha images. Along the way, we will also stop at a few villages, including Ban Xanghai, where the local rice wine is produced.
Return Luang Prabang in the evening and overnight at the hotel.
After having breakfast at your hotel, travelling outskirt of Luang Prabang heading to Kuang Si falls. On your arrival, enjoy main waterfalls with spectacular views and surrounding of orchids inside the park and falls cascade over many calcified tiers and down several hundred feet into a series of cool, turquoise pools where you can cool off with a swim.
In the afternoon, transfer to the train station for the departure to Vientiane (~2h by train). It is recommended to arrive at the station 1 hour before the departure of your train.
Upon arrival, our staff and will meet you and transfer you to your centrally located hotel. Vientiane is a fascinating capital, with a fusion of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, and American influences. This charming and easygoing city will provide a smooth introduction to the country. After a short rest, an orientation walk is a pleasant way to spend the day, strolling around some of the city’s most historical sites and seeing some of the French colonial architecture. We’ll bask in the sunset by the Mekong Riverside and continue to explore until the late evening. Overnight in Vientiane.
After breakfast, we start visiting the major city sights; including Wat Sisaket, the country’s oldest temple, with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo. En route to the famous That Luang Stupa, you will have the opportunity to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph.
In the afternoon, we take a drive along the Mekong River flowing between the Laos and Thailand borders. We will pass the Friendship Bridge, which was built to link the two nations. 25km from the city, we reach Buddha Park. The remainder of the morning will be spent walking around this beautiful park, admiring the huge statues of Hindu and Buddhist gods.
Return to your hotel and overnight in Vientiane.
After having breakfast at your hotel, time at your leisure exploration until you catch an express train to Luang Prabang in the afternoon.
Once back to the city, we then climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a panoramic view of the city at sunset. From there, we explore the Night Market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textile made by local and hill tribe people surrounding Luang Prabang. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
